The subject aims to understand medical terminology phrases. We focus on anatomical and essential clinical topics; therefore, we will introduce the structure of basic Latin grammar and the importance of Latin and Greek in international medical terminology. We focus on reading authentic medical materials.

Requirements for the Credit 1. As for attendance, you can miss one practical class. If so, an official document must confirm the reason for the absence. 2. The student has to pass all the micro-tests successfully. 3. A student has to successfully pass the Credit test, which consists of all the topics from the winter semester. Students have three chances to pass the credit test. The 1st date during the 10th practical class is obligatory for all students. If students do not come, they fail and lose the 1st chance. During the winter examination period, several dates for the 2nd attempt will be posted in the SIS, from which a student can choose. For those who do not pass or do not come for the 2nd attempt, the 3rd attempt will be organized in April and September (students can choose one). Each student has to sign up for (or cancel) any test in the SIS.
CONDITIONS TO PASS THE FINAL EXAMINATION:
The final examination consists of medical phrase translation and an etymological explanation of medical terminology. The final test includes all the materials provided in the winter semester. There are three chances for the final examination. Dates will be posted in the SIS. A student has to sign up (or cancel) for the chosen date.
The credit requirements for the students who attended LMT before are the same as those for 1st-year students.
During seminars, students can not use electronic devices (mobile phones, notebooks, clever watches, ear help, and others). Students who break this rule in any test will be evaluated as failed. Classes content 1) Introduction to the subject: the importance of Latin Medical Terminology for studying medicine. Pronunciation and spelling rules. The basis of the system in Latin grammar for nouns concerning other European languages. Chapters 1 – 2. I. declension nouns. Practice on Terminologia Anatomica and International Classification of Diseases. Chapter 15 a: Introduction to prefixes used in international medical terminology.
2) Chapters 3 – 4: II. declension nouns. The reading and understanding of anatomical phrases. Chapter 14 – Greek bases A – C. Chapter 15 a: Introduction to prefixes used in international medical terminology (periodontium/paradontitis/interdental X intradental,…).
3) Review – Chapter 5. Chapter 14 – Greek bases D – H. Chapter 15 b: Numerals
4) Chapters 6 – 7: IV., V. declension. Chapter 14 – Greek bases I – O. 1st test – Chapters 1 – 5 + Chapter 15. Greek noun stems (Chapter 14: A – H).
5) Chapter 8: III. declension. Chapter 14 – Greek bases P – R.
6) Chapter 9: III. declension nouns. Chapter 14 – Greek bases S – U. Review – Chapter 10.
7) Chapter 11: „Greek declensions. “ Introduction to clinical and pathological terminology. Practice understanding the anatomical phrases. Chapter 14: Final Words Elements (carcino-genes/stomato-rrhagia/odont-algia,..). 2nd test – Chapters 1 – 10, 15. Greek noun stems (Chapter 14).
8) Chapters 12: III. declension adjectives. Chapter 14: Greek adjectives. Reading authentic diagnoses.
9) Chapter 16: Suffixes. 3rd test – Greek noun stems (Chapter 14), Chapter 11 – 15. Review and practice for the credit test.
