Credit
Credit will be awarded to students who:
1) have properly completed the practical training in the given semester (any absence must be duly compensated),
2) have demonstrated sufficient knowledge during continuous assessment,
3) pass the credit test with a minimum score of 75%.
If a student fails to achieve at least 75% in the credit test, an oral examination covering the subject matter will follow.
In the case of repeating a study requirement, the student is obliged to complete the study requirement in its entirety.

The lectures complement the required literature. They emphasize the minimum knowledge in the field required for passing the examination.

Etiology and pathogenesis of plaque-induced periodontal diseases (microorganisms; inflammatory and immunological responses of the host to periodontal microorganisms; environmental and local factors). (Radochova 3)
Epidemiology of periodontal diseases. (Radochova 1)
Clinical signs and forms of plaque-induced gingivitis and periodontitis, staging and grading of periodontitis. (Radochova 2)
Principles of periodontal treatment, healing of periodontal lesions, and evaluation of treatment effectiveness. (Slezak 3)
Therapy of periodontitis – practical guidelines. (Radochova 1)
Therapy of periodontitis – active phase. (Radochova 2)

Practical classes take place at the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University. Students participate in patient examination, diagnosis, and treatment under the supervision of a dentist.
Content of practical classes:
Examination of patients with periodontitis.
Radiographic examination of periodontal tissues and evaluation of findings.
Diagnosis, treatment planning, staging, and grading of periodontitis.
Oral hygiene instruction and patient motivation.
Removal of subgingival calculus and plaque using hand instruments and ultrasonic devices.
Note: In order to participate in practical training at the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine in Hradec Králové, Charles University, students are required to wear white clinical clothing and hospital slippers and must carry their student ID card.
