The course is aimed to prepare students directly for the doctor-patient communication which they will perform in the hospital. The course topics follow the internal propedeutics structure in terms of taking patient´s personal data, taking a patient´s medical history (familiar, past, working, pharmacological, allergological and social past histories), speaking about present problems, giving instructions during medical examination and using ethical approach while giving good or bad news.
The course focuses especially on listening skills (in the form of doctor-patient dialogues) and speaking (obtaining required information). The core of the course is a professional vocabulary acquisition aimed at general medicine.

ATTENDANCE: There are 14 lessons a term and only 3 absences are allowed. Any subsequent absence must be confirmed by a doctor. Doctor´s confirmation must be submitted within 7 days after the missed class. If students miss 4 classes without a doctor´s confirmation, they lose their small points (from micro oral tests). If students miss 5 classes and more without a doctor´s confirmation, they will not be allowed to sit for a credit. In case of any absence a student is responsible for covering all the materials that were taught during the lesson he/she missed, which means that the student has to ask his/her classmates and copy from them all the handouts distributed in the lesson. The student cannot expect that the teacher will give him/her any materials later. The teacher offers consultation hours for those students who attend classes, or for those who apologize for missing a class.
EARNING CREDIT: 1) GAINING at least 150 POINTS There will be 2 written tests during Czech classes, each test evaluated by 100 points. Besides that, there will be an oral testing at the beginning of each class where students can get up to 2 points. At the end of the term students need to gather 150 points in total not to sit for a written credit test. If students do not gain the required points, they have to pass a written credit test. The points gained in the weekly oral testing and projects will be added to the score of the credit test.
2) PROJECT There will be one obligatory project (a dialogue worth of 5 points) and two more optional projects (video presentations for 3 points, posters for 2 ponts). Possible topics will be specified in the Moodle.
3) CONVERSATION Each student has to pass an oral part of the credit which is the conversation with a teacher on given topics. It will happen at the end of the term (for those who have already gained 150 points during the term), or during the examination period, after passing the written test.
RULES FOR THE CREDIT TEST IN WINTER EXAMINATION PERIOD 1. Students who gained 150 points during practical classes will sit only for the oral credit – at the end of the semester or in the examination period. 2. Students who did not reach 150 points have to sit for the written credit test. The first date in the last class of the winter semester is obligatory. Other dates for obtaining the winter credit (both the written test and conversation) will be offered during the winter examination period. Each student has to register (or deregister) for any written/oral test via SIS. Mind the deadline for de/registration. The oral credit part will take place after the written test – the same day. 3. If you register in the SIS and you do not come, that date is counted as an absence, which means „fail“, unless you submit a medical confirmation of not having been able to come for health reason, until 7 days after a missing date. Later papers will not be accepted. 4. There are 3 chances for credit test, but only in the given dates. For those who do not get winter credit by the end of the winter examination period there will be only one extra date in the summer semester or exam period. If you come at the last offered date and you do not pass, there are not any other chances for you! Students have to pass winter credit by the end of August. 5. Students repeating the subject have to fulfill all the requirements given above (attendance, gaining points, projects, oral credit). In case there is a clash with 3rd year schedule, students shall prepare a binding study plan, which will be required, and submit it to their instructor before the beginning of the semester.
