The course introduces basics of the Czech language focusing on practical day-to-day usage (personal data, colours, restaurant, profession, curriculum vitae, interest and hobbies, say the tome, travelling). It also prepares students for the doctor-patient communication which they will perform in the hospital (medical examination, names of diseases, hospital departments and stuff). The materials contain recorded materials in the form of doctor-patient dialogues, articles dealing with medical topics, and exercises focusing on professional vocabulary acquisition including general medicine.

ATTENDANCE There are 14 lessons a term and only 3 absences are allowed. The only excuse is a long-term illness, which must be confirmed by a doctor. In case of any absence a student is responsible for covering all the materials that were taught during the lesson he/she missed, which means that the student has to ask his/her classmates and copy from them all the handouts distributed in the lesson. The student can not expect that the teacher will give him/her any materials later. The teacher offers consultation hours for those students who attend classes, or for those who apologise for missing a class.
EARNING CREDIT 1) GAINING at least 150 POINTS There will be 4 written tests during Czech classes, each test evaluated by 50 points. Besides that, there will be an oral testing at the beginning of each class where students can get some points. At the end of the term students need to gether 150 points in total not to sit for a written credit test. If students do not gain the required points, they have to pass a written credit test. The points gained in the weekly oral testing and projects will be added to the score of the credit test. 2) PROJECT There will be one obligatory project (in a form of a presentation worth of 5 points) and two more optional projects (videopresentations for 3 points, posters for 2 ponts). Possible topics will be specified in the Moodle. 3) CONVERSATION Each student has to pass an oral part of the credit which is the conversation with a teacher on given topics. It will happen at the end of the term (for those who have already gained 150 points during the term) or during the exam period, after passing the written test.
RULES FOR THE CREDIT TEST IN SUMMER EXAMINATION PERIOD You can sit for any part of the summer credit after passing the winter one. Each student has to sign up for (or cancel) any written or oral test via SIS. There are 3 chances but only in the given dates, which means that if you come at the last date and you do not pass, there are not any other chances for you! The first written credit test date (for those not having gained 150 points) will be obligatory in the last class of the summer semester. The dates for getting the summer (both the written test and conversation) will be offered during the summer examination period. RULES FOR STUDENTS REPEATING THE SUBJECT Students who repeat the subject will attend classes and fulfill all duties according to the requirements for other students.
