Anotace -
The Rehabilitation – Education – Active Lifestyle – Elite Sports continuum is introduced as a framework of the course. First part covers topic of rehabilitation (including visit to Paraple Centre in Prague) with a look at history of para sport as a part of rehabilitation, biomedical introduction of eligible impairment types with special focus on Spinal Cord Injury, and importance of adapted physical activities in the rehabilitation process. Second part is dedicated to the topic of education. It starts with biomedical introduction of cerebral palsy as one of the most common inborn disability leading to physical impairment and affecting educational process. The Paralympic Educational Program including practical Paralympic School Day experience is also included in the section. This part is accompanied with the visit to the Jedlička Institute in Prague which is a special school and institution for children with physical impairments. The third part presents the topic of active lifestyle and especially elite para sport with all necessary information about its organizational structure, classification, technology and arising ethical issues. This last part is accompanied by visits to para sport events (trainings, competitions).

History of the para sport as a part of rehabilitation
o Kladruby Games versus Stoke Mandeville Games
o Presentation on the Urgency of Bridging Rehabilitation to Active Lifestyle
Biomedical introduction of eligible impairment types with special focus on Spinal Cord Injury
o Spinal Cord Injury: neuromusculoskeletal and autonomic consequences. Introduction to classification from a neuromusculoskeletal perspective, the role of technology in rehabilitation and elite sport, and introduction to anti-doping (e.g. autonomic dysreflexia or boosting).
Bridge from Rehabilitation to Active Lifestyle
o The importance of adapted physical activities during rehabilitation.
The Sports & Active Lifestyle model from the Netherlands versus the Sports & Active Lifestyle model of KU Leuven (Information – Initiation – Integration – Inclusion).
o The competence profile of the professional bridging rehabilitation to active lifestyle: a reflection on Movement Sciences and Rehabilitation Sciences’ curricula
Visit to the Paraple Centre in Prague
o Rehabilitation and services in the Paraple Centre
o Demonstration of outdoor equipment for persons with spinal cord injury: opportunity to interact with demonstraters and participants.
o Brief reflection on the visit: shortcomings of the rehabilitation process.

PART 2: Education (visit to Jedlička Institute in Prague)
Biomedical introduction of eligible impairment types with special focus on Cerebral Palsy
o Cerebral Palsy (CP): introduction to the complexity of CP, explaining the Gross Motor Function Classification and topographic classification. Differences between spastic CP, dyskinetic CP and ataxic CP. Classification of CP by CP-ISRA.
o Consequences of Cerebral Palsy: botulin injections as therapy versus performance boosting. Classification of multi-impairments.
The Paralympic Education program
o The Athens 2004 Paralympic Educational Material. The impact on the IPC Organigram and the launching of the Paralympic Education Committee.
o The Paralympic School Day project (PSD) launched in 2006 by the IPC after a piloting phase in seven European countries. Explanation of the PSD concept by means of the PSD manual.
o Paralympic School Day at UK FTVS (practical event)

Active Lifestyle
o Barriers, benefits and facilitators of leisure time physical activity among people with disabilities
Elite para sport structure
o International structure of sport for people with impairment. Evolution from IOSD’s (ISMGF, ISOD, CP-ISRA, IBSA, INAS, CISS, SO) to ICC and IPC. Relationship between IOC and IPC throughout this evolution. Eligibility of athletes with Intellectual Impairment throughout the years.
o International structure of sports federations: independent, segregated (e.g. IWBF for wheelchair basketball); integrated (e.g. ITTF for Table Tennis); IPC (e.g. for Athletics); IOSD (e.g. IBSA for Goalball).
Classification in para sport
o From a medical to a functional to an evidence-based classification approach.
o The concept of Evidence-Based classification.
o Sport-specific applications of evidence-based classification to wheelchair sports and Nordic Skiing for athletes with Intellectual Impairment.
o Theorization of advantage in parasport classification
Technology in elite para sport
 o The Oscar Pistorius Case
o Decision of CAS based on Bruggeman et al. (2008) and Weyand et al. (2009) studies
 o The Blake Leeper Case
 o The Marcus Rehm Case
Ethical issues in para sport
o Anti-doping (autonomic dysreflexia, botulin injections, surgical intervention, medication - sildenafil citrate, technical boosting)
 o Eligibility and Classification
o Athletes with high support needs
o Media: role and representation, etc.
Visit to para sport events according to current possibilities (trainings, competitions)

Weekly class topics, with activities and assessment tasks – always specified in the contemporaneous document: Prague Teaching Days APA (to be prepared in advance)
