This course will address several approaches for modelling biological systems, giving particular attention to biological networks and metabolic systems. Introduction to fundamental concepts will provide understanding of how complex dynamical behaviours can originate from relatively simple circuits thanks to the non-linearity and high interconnectedness of biological systems. The course will also provide a detailed characterisation of these behaviours through mathematical tools. Finally, the course will focus on how the structure of biological networks influence the dynamics of a system, a concept which is particularly useful when studying for instance epidemic spreading or extinction cascades.
