Presenting the development of psychological thinking since the ancient history to the present, introducing the history of psychology as a part of philosophy until the establishment of psychology as an independent science in the 19th century. Focusing on the time span of psychology as an independent science (the preconditions for establishment of scientific psychology, the founders of psychology as an independent science, psychological schools at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and during the 20th century, the particular psychological disciplines in the 20th century, including the contribution of the Czechoslovak and Czech psychology). The goal of the subject is to present to the students the development of psychological thinking since the ancient history to the present, to introduce the history of psychology as a part of philosophy until the establishment of psychology as an independent science in the 19th century (ancient cultures, antique thinking, the middle ages, renaissance, modern history). The subject further focuses on the time span of psychology as an independent science (acquaints students with the preconditions for establishment of scientific psychology, presents the founders of psychology as an independent science, psychological schools at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries and during the 20th century, the particular psychological disciplines in the 20th century, including the contribution of the Czechoslovak and Czech psychology). Gained knowledge: Students will acquire and master the orientation in problems of history of psychology and the development of psychological thinking. He is able to enumerate and to explain the basic problems in the history of psychology and psychological thinking. He will manage to categorize, explain, and to describe with understanding the particular topics and periods in the history of psychological thinking. Gained skills: Students will be able not only to orient themselves in the problems of history of psychology and to understand the principal issues of the history of psychological thinking but he will be also able to identify, classify, categorize, explain, and to interpret the views of the most significant and relevant representatives of psychological thinking through the history of the subject of psychology. They will be able to analyze, categorize and characterize the specific approaches; they will learn to appreciate them and to compare them critically.
