Téma práce se liší od tématu diplomové práce a má podobu buď odborné studie analyzující žákovský jazyk, nebo metodických listů zpracovaných na základě principů akvizice a výuky daných jevů. Podrobný popis prací viz níže. Jiná témata jsou možná po dohodě s vyučujícím a musí vždy obsahovat výzkumnou část.
Typ 1) analýza žákovského jazyka
Student zvolí specifický rys žákovského jazyka a v teoretické části popíše na základě samostatně vyhledané odborné literatury, k čemu v dané oblasti dospěl výzkum tak, aby teoretická část vytvářela skutečnou bázi pro část praktickou. Pro tu si student zvolí konkrétní rys žákovského jazyka (na jakékoliv jazykové rovině) a analyzuje jej na vzorku žákovského jazyka. Vzorek poskytne vyučující, který zároveň doporučí jeho velikost, a to v závislosti na volbě konkrétního jevu. Výstupem by mělo být srovnání s výsledky obdobných studií popsaných v literatuře.
Typ 2) metodické listy
Student si zvolí jakýkoliv aspekt vyučování anglického jazyka. V teoretické části na základě odborné literatury popíše, jaké principy ovlivňují výuku ve zvolené oblasti (např. v závislosti na základních principech jazykové akvizice) a jaká jsou zde pro vyučování nejmodernější doporučení. Na jejich základě pak v praktické části zpracuje několik metodických listů a zároveň poukáže, jak při jejich zpracování uplatňuje principy popsané v teoretické části.

The topic of the study must be different from that of the student’s MA thesis and can be either a research study focusing on the analysis of a selected aspect of learner language, or practical ELT materials compiled on the basis of the knowledge and reflection of the acquisition and teaching of the selected aspect (see the details below). Other topics are possible only with the approval of the teacher and must always contain a research part.
Option 1) learner language analysis
The student selects a specific feature of learner language and in the theoretical part of the study describes the current state of knowledge based on independet literature research reviewing recent literature so that the theoretical part forms a real basis for the analytical part. In the practical part the student analyses the selected feature on a sample of learner language provided by the tutor, who will also – based on the nature of the research problem – recommend the appropriate size of the data sample. The outcome of the study should include a comparison of the results with the results of similar studies described in literature.
Option 2) developing teaching materials
The student chooses any aspect of teaching English as a foreign language. In the theoretical part he will describe the principles affecting the teaching of this particular aspect (e.g. in relation to principles of second language acquisition) and review the most recent recommendations for teaching. Based on this, in the practical part, he will then prepare a number of teaching plans and explain how the theoretical principles described in the theoretical part were applied to their design.

Podmínky zakončení předmětu -
Student je povinen téma práce s vyučujícím předem konzultovat. Písemnou práci je třeba odevzdat nejméně čtyři týdny před předpokládaným termínem zápisu výsledku atestace do SIS.

The students is obliged to discuss the topic of the study with the teacher in advance. The study must be submitted at least 4 weeks before the expected entry of the results in the SIS.

Volba a rozsah literatury závisí na tématu písemné práce, mělo by přitom jít především o nejnovější literaturu.

Hodnocení je na základě kvality zpracování studie, rozsahu rešerše, kvalitě jejího zpracování a kvalitě praktické části.
