The Extracurricular Internship Meaningful World is designed for students of Liberal Arts and Humanities study programme. Its aim is to broaden students' knowledge, skills and competences in the outside-of-academia environment. The goal of internship is to respond to the current social changes and provide students with an opportunity to combine their studying experience with everyday social practice. The internship might take a form of volunteer work. Both mental and physical activities and work during the internship are welcomed.
Since the study programme is international, it could be performed inside and outside Czechia, based on the particular internship and student's situation.
It is highly recommended to complete the internship during the second year of studies at LAH programme.

Activities responding to the current social challenges:
climate crisis, green policies and sustainable projects (including bio-farming, ecological projects, foresting, etc.)
public policy and social problems(e.g. homelessness and housing crisis, social exclusion, racial, ethnic and gender discrimination)
charity work and humanitarian help
Providing students of LAH programme with an opportunity to broaden knowledge, skills and competences in the outside-of-academia world
Encouraging students to undertake civic actions and engage in life of communities as activeand devoted citizens
Promoting social responsibility and solidarity

Podmínky zakončení předmětu -
Former approval by the Head of the LAH programme (prior to the internship start) - Dr. L.M. DobrovolnáWladyniak.
Written form signed by an internship supervisor in a respective institution at the end of internship
One-page (A4) reflection upon the internship (skills learnt, challenges, limits, etc.) – in a written form send to the Head of LAH programme, maximum two weeks after the end of internship.
Ethics and misconduct:
Students are required to follow the ethical standards of the internship field, as well as follow the Charles University Code of Ethics, proving respectful and responsible behaviour, while representing both the Faculty of Humanities and Charles University.
Should any doubts concerning ethics or misconduct occur, students will contact and consult the matter with the Head of LAH programme, Dr. L. M.DobrovolnáWladyniak.

Until the end of summer semester 2024/2025 the condition for credits attained is confirmation about internship by the institution and student´s short reflection of the practice and its benefit (max. 1 normopage). Please note that the course is optional (i.e. not elective). The 3 ects points which you may get per semester taken into account as credits for optional courses.
Credits are granted upon application and confirmation of internship. Granting credits is not claimable. The adequacy of internship must be consulted and approved before its beginning by the Head of the LAH programme: Dr. L.M. Dobrovolná Wladyniak.

Internship timing and duration:
Internship could be done both during an academic year and summer break. This should be individually discussed and evaluated by students themselves, in the context of other their academic responsibilities.
Duration of the internship should be discussed individually before, with the Head of LAH programme, since it is relative regarding the specifics.

Course information valid until the end of summer semester 2024/2025:
This course allows students to have their chosen internship or volunteering activity acknowledged for credits. Before registration of this course students have to request for a prior approval of internship (by the attached form). They should choose any kind of internship that develops student's competences and is in line with their own curriculum. Below there is a list of several NGOs, but a student can choose whatever internship they want and which is approved. Volunteering in an NGO, both paid and non-paid internships/part-time jobs in private companies or government institutions can be acknowledged as well if they provide some additional value related to the study curriculum. Conditions of the internship have to be negotiated and agreed upon by students themselves. Faculty does not take any responsibility for communication or any interaction between students and institutions which host them as an intern/volunteer/employee.
