Přednáškový cyklus se věnuje evropskému umění v 19. století. Soutředí se se přitom na vybrané fenomény úzce související s tímto obdobím. Jedním z nich je například vztah velkoměstského prostředí Paříže ke vzniku a rozvoji moderního umění. Neopomíjí téma oficiálních i alternativních uměleckých salonů a umělecké kritiky, které k definování moderní evropské kultury výrazně přispěly. Zohledněna je rovněž problematika vlivu orientálního
umění na evropské, rozvoje grafických technik a fotografie, genderu, nacionalismu nebo reformních snah v oblasti designu. Jednotlivé tematické okruhy jsou líčeny v širokém kulturně-historickém kontextu.

Cíl předmětu -
Cílem předmětu je podrobněji seznámit studenty s vybranými tématy (vztah umělců k politice, postavení žen v uměleckém provozu, pařížský Salon, vznik uměleckých skupin ad.) vztahujícími se především k evropskému umění v 19. a 20. století.
