This course covers key aspects of refugee and migration law, focusing on both international and European contexts. It begins with an introduction to the fundamental concepts and historical evolution of the field. Lectures explore global legal frameworks, such as the 1951 Refugee Convention, and European instruments like the Dublin Regulation and Qualification Directive and the whole Common European Asylum System (CEAS). The course covers the full range of migration legislation, including irregular migration, voluntary and involuntary returns, and explores pathways to legal migration. It also discusses current challenges and future trends in EU migration policy, and the cooperation between the EU and third countries. The final lecture tackles the legal and ethical issues in migration law, balancing state sovereignty with human rights concerns.
