The subject Preclinical Dentistry I provides the basic information about the orofacial system with emphasis to the teeth, their anatomy, histology, development, phasiology, morphology, terminology and notation. The content of this subject is an important basement for the study of all branches of dentistry.

After finishing of this subjects, students are able to:

  • Characterize the human dentition, describe the anatomy and explain the physiology of the organs and tissues of the oral cavity and its surrounding.
  • Actively use different systems of teeth notation and explain their principles.
  • Describe the tooth tissues and surrounding tissues, their properties and functions.
  • Describe the running of the tooth development and explain the indvidual involved processes.
  • Use the professional terms to describe the directions and localizations on the dental arches and individual teeth. Name the walls and parts of the tooth.
  • Define morphological features and signs of teeth including their internal structure.
  • Describe in details the macromorphology of individual permanent teeth.
  • Explain the main differences between the permanent and deciduous dentition.
  • Define anthropometric points, lines and angles. Explain the functional relationships of the dental arches and jaws.

Požadavky ke zkoušce - angličtina

Credit

  1. Attendance 100%. Missed practicals must be compensated.
  2. Writing 4 running tests. Achieving of 80% of points is expected. The results of these tests are not a credit criterion; they serve as a feedback for the students.
  3. Achieving at least 80% of points from the credit test. In case of non-fulfilment, student can write re-take credit test (max. twice) with the threshold 80%.
  4. Achieving at least 80% of total count of all possible points from all practical work (teeth identification and drawing, wax shaping and wax-up technique). In case of non-fulfilment, student can do a retake modellation with the threshold 80%. In case of getting less points, the student can do a second retake modellation with the threshold 80%.
  5. Drawings of teeth 11, 12, 13, 14, 16, 32, 33, 35, 36, 37 from 5 aspects (vestibular, oral, mesial, distal and occlusal/incisal).
  6. Giving back the lent articulators and modelling instruments without any damage.
  7. Fulfil all given tasks.
  8. Cheating during any form of exam (running test, final test) is not tolerated. Use of any electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, notebooks, etc.) as well as unauthorized materials or communication with another students in these instances is strictly prohibited. In case of braking these rules, student will be classified "failed".

 

Note

Each student needs dry pair of shoes (not boots), which he wears only inside the Dpt. of Dentistry.

If the student does not have clean shoes, he can use disposable shoe covers.

In case of repeating of the subject the students is demanded to fulfill all the credit criteria.

White lab coats or medical scrubs must be worn during all practical classes.

It is strictly forbidden to bring and use any electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, laptops, recorders etc.) in the fantom lab. Their possession could result in disqualification from the class.

No eating, drinking, smoking or chewing in the fantom lab at any time.

Student is responsible for his working place including the equipment (as well as final clean-up) and is required to follow the rules for safety work in phantom lab.

Student must be teoretically prepared for practical classes.

Student is required to report immediately any damage to the equipment (articulator, modelling instruments etc.) and to agree on the financial compensation of the damage.

Assisting at the clinical practicals can be accepted as a compensation for a missed practical lesson in case of the teachers approval.

In the case of repeating a study obligation, the student is required to complete the study obligation in its entirety.

  1. Introduction to dentistry. Anatomy of the oral cavity and its surrounding, teeth notation + e-learning course (ELC).  (Kapitan 3)
  2. Histology of tooth, development of tooth, teeth erruption (ELC). (Soukup, Kapitan 3)
  3. Orientation on the tooth, basic morphology terms, general description of teeth (ELC). (Kapitan 3)
  4. Detailed morphology of permanent teeth, differences between primary and permanent teeth (ELC). (Kapitan 2)
  5. Consulttions to ELC (Kapitán 1)
  6. Dentition as a whole, relationships between teeth and jaws, introduction of gnathology. (Vavrickova 3)

Notes to the lectures:

  • Condition for attendence at lecture No.2 is finishing of the ELC until chapter "Basic anatomie, histology and development of teeth" including the test.
  • Condition for attendence at Consultations to ELC is finishing of the ELC until chapter "Morphology of deciduous teeth" including the test. It is recommended to study the chapter "Diferencial diagnostics of permanent teeth".
  • It is recommended to study the chapters "Basic gnathology" and "Vax-up technique" including the tests before lecture No. 6.
