Course annotation:
The course is intended for students interested in scientific work in the field of neuroscience. Students will learn
about various aspects of planning and implementing research projects and gain practical experience of working in
a research team. Only students who have already made an agreement with one of the lecturers to take part in a
specific scientific project can be accepted. Students who have not yet established a collaboration with a mentor
may express their interest by email (neuro@lf1.cuni.cz), but their involvement in a research project cannot be
guaranteed.

Course Goal *: To enable students to participate in a neuroscience research team and gain hands-on experience in a wide range of research-related activities. Activities may include drafting a research project, collecting and processing and analyzing data, formulating and interpreting results, and then preparing a presentation of the results and writing a paper. Research activities also include literature searching and processing and working with databases. Experience with team communication and discussion of preliminary results and problem solving is also an important part of teamwork. Course deliverables: Depending on the scope and type of work, the goal may be to achieve co-authorship of the outputs of the research project, e.g. presentations of results at conferences or publications related to the project. Co-authorship is not guaranteed by simply enrolling in the course.

Teaching methods: teaching takes the form of active participation of the pre-graduate student in a specific project under the guidance of a mentor. This may include consultation, collaboration with team members and independent work on delegated tasks. The time required to complete the course is 30 hours per semester, but participation in a research project culminating in a publication is usually significantly more time consuming.
