The linguistic part of the course focuses on introducing language as a supreme structure, tool of communication, fundament of human existence and social phenomenon - concerning its specific, as well as universal properties. The aim of the literary part of the course is to introduce students to unique qualities of literary language and familiarize them with the basic terms and categories of literary studies as well the specific features of fiction, poetry and drama. The main focus is put on the development of students’ ability to analyse a selection of texts from Anglo-American literature from the point of view of their formal structure.

Cílem lingvistické části kurzu je představit studentům jazyk jako svrchovanou strukturu, nástroj komunikace, základ lidské existence a sociální fenomén - jak v jeho specifických, tak univerzálních rysech. Cíl literární část kurzu tkví v představení jedinečných vlastností jazyka literatury, s jehož základními pojmy, kategoriemi a vlastnostmi budou studenti seznámeni. Hlavní důraz je kladen rozvoj schopnosti studentů analyzovat různé literární texty anglosaské literatury především z hlediska jejich formální struktury.

Distance learning will be taking place online, essentially in the form of interactive communication and via seminars and consultations in MS Teams. Study materials will be provided electronically via the aforementioned channels. E-mail communication will also be used in support of the previously mentioned forms.

Pro úspěšné splnění musí výsledek testu dosahovat minimální hodnoty 70% v souhrnném hodnocení obou částí, tj. jak lingvistické, tak literární. Podmínkou připuštění ke zkoušce je min.80% docházka do seminářů. Student má k dispozici jeden řádný a dva opravné termíny.

Kurz je hodnocen na základě testu, v němž studenti prokážou schopnost analyzovat a interpretovat texty z perspektivy aplikace literárních i jazykovědných poznatků. Pro úspěšné splnění musí výsledek testu dosahovat minimální hodnoty 70% v souhrnném hodnocení obou částí, tj. jak lingvistické, tak literární. 

Dalším poždavkem je pravidelná docházka do seminářů- min.80%.
