The course is aimed to prepare students directly for the doctor-patient communication which they will perform in the hospital. The initial topic corresponds to the students´ needs to communicate with patients during their summer holiday medical practice in the hospitals (patient care communication). Following topics are based on the main general medicine specializations (pneumology, cardiology, gastroenterology, urology, gynecology and obstetrics, endocrinology, ENT, dermatology, traumatology, orthopedics and physiotherapy, neurology and psychiatry). The course focuses especially on listening skills (in the form of doctor-patient dialogues) and speaking (obtaining required information). The core of the course is a professional vocabulary acquisition aimed at general medicine.

Credit

The student´s performance is evaluated continuously using oral and written testing. Credit will be given to students who have fulfilled the conditions of attendance (only 3 absences allowed), passed minitests (or passed the written credit test).

1) GAINING at least 150 POINTS

There will be 2 continuous written tests during Czech classes, all tests together will count 200 points. There will be a continuous oral testing and written mini-tests at the beginning of each class where students can get some points as well. Besides that there will be a project and a set of elective tasks. At the end of the term students need to gather 150 points in total not to sit for a final winter written credit test. If they do not gain the required points in continuous evaluation, they have to pass a final winter written credit test (covering the whole winter term). Pass mark is 75%.

Final:

The pre-requisite of the oral exam is the credit (see above).
The oral exam covers 100% knowledge of medical terminology of 1st and 2nd study year in a simulated doctor-patient conversation, i.e. the student is expected to know all the words and phrases and be able to use them promptly according to the "patients" problems.
An integral part of the evaluation is a correct Czech pronunciation and understanding spoken Czech. The whole exam is held in Czech.
