The course of Palliative Medicine contains both theoretical and practical information focused on palliative care, both in its general and specialized forms. The goal of this course is to present the characteristics and multidisciplinary nature of the palliative care team and to introduce some of its essential topics, such as planning, organization, and supportive and symptomatic treatment for terminal patients. This course will also provide greater clarity on the overall health, mental, spiritual, and social issues of the terminally ill, outlining the technical pitfalls and ethical dilemmas involved. The lectures will be imparted by experts from various fields (internal medicine, anaesthesiology, resuscitation, geriatrics, and clinical pharmacy, among others) and palliative care medics, the latter of which will also take part in the practical sessions. Thus, we expect this course to familiarize the attending professionals with the theoretical and practical aspects of Palliative Medicine and its clinical management.
