The subject Endodontics I provides the basics of endodontics including the ethiopatogenesis of endodontic diseases, diagnostics, instrumentarium and techniques for the root canal treatment and postendodontic treatment.

Prerequisities for the subject Endodontics I are all mandatory subjects of the first year of studies and subjects Preclinical Dentistry III and Prosthetic technology.

Aim of the course

After finishing of this subjects, the students are able to:

  • Explain physiology and patophysiology of dental pulp and ethiopatogenesis of endodontic diseases and their complications.
  • Take the medical history and perform the clinical and auxiliary examination in a necessary range for the correct diagnostics of endodontic diseases and other diseases, which can imitate them.
  • Assess the indications and contraindications of root canal treatment. Choose a suitable way of treatment including the postendodontic treatment.
  • Perform all the steps of the root canal treatment.
  • Perform the direct postendodontic treatment and the direct part of the combined postendodontic treatment.

Credit

  1. Finishing the e-learning course Acute Conditions in Endodontics in Moodle including the final test and the virtual patient. The student must gain at least 80% of poins in the course's final test and diagnose correctly at least 10 virtual patients.
  2. At least 5 prepared and filled root canals, including at least one molar – can be on extracted teeth or 3D printed teeth.
  3. At least 80% of all points from all tests together.
