The subject Endodontics II provides information about technologies used in endodontics incl. rotary shaping of the root canals, advanced procedures in endodontics incl. the root canal retreatment, surgical endodontic treatment, treatment of discoloured teeth, broken teeth and teeth with pulpo-perio lesion. Treatment of common and uncommon cases is demonstrated.

Prerequisities for the subject Endodontics II are all mandatory subjects of the first year of studies and subjects Preclinical Dentistry III and Prosthetic technology.

Aim of the course

After finisich of this subject, the students are able to:

  • Explain the principles of rotary root canal shaping.
  • Perform rotary shaping of the root canals.
  • Assess the indications and contraindications of the root canal retreatment. Perform this treament in simple cases.
  • Assess the indications and contraindications of surgical endodontic treatment.
  • Assess the indication and perform internal bleaching of a tooth.
  • Choose a suitable way of treatment of a broken tooth, perform this treatment.
  • Choose a suitable way of treatment of a tooth with fracture, perform this treatment.
  • Choose a suitable way of treatment of a tooth with pulpo-perio lesion, perform this treatment.
  • Discuss the choice and way of treatment in common and uncommon cases.

Credit

  1. At least 80% of points from all the tests.
  2. At least 5 prepared and filled root canals, including at least one molar – can be on extracted teeth or 3D printed teeth.

Final exam

The final exam consists of the identification of extracted teeth, theoretical question and a virtual patient.

  2. Operation microscope, ultrasound and laser in endoodntics. Photodynamic therapy. (Kapitan 3)

  4. Root canal retreatment. Case reports. (Kapitan 3)
  5. Surgical endodontic treatment. (Kapitan 3)
  6. Treatment of discoloured teeth. (Suchanek 1)
  7. Treatment of fractured teeth. Lesions of pulpal or periodontal origin. (Suchanek 2)
  8. Case reports – common and rare cases. Practice in diagnostics and therapeutic considerations. Credit test. (Jouklova 3)
