Exams will consist of two parts: (i) Written part/preparation for theory: at most 1 hour, solving two problems + preparing to discuss related theoretical concepts (theorems, definitions). (ii) Discussion: At most 1 hour, discussion of the two solved problems and of the corresponding theory. An illustrative example of one problem and a set of corresponding theoretical questions is: Problem: Solve a specific integral of a vector field over a closed line from the definition. Theory: Discuss the meaning of the solved integral and explain how such integrals can be solved in general. Formulate integral theorems of vector calculus, sketch their geometric meaning on a figure, identify the one that could have been used to solve the problem above, and show how to use it. |
