Human beings are by nature social creatures, our psyche identity and behaviors are all formed by how we relate to others and how others relate to us. This also includes how groups, cultures and ideologies influence our psyche and the societies we inhabit. In this course we will be covering some of the most important theories of social psychology along with tying it to the experience of studying abroad in Prague, Czech Republic. We will be looking at social phenomena such as conformity, the power of the situation and just how much of our identity is formed by our environment. We will focus on what social psychology teaches us about group behavior and also being aware of group influences so that we have more freedom to choose how to act and are less likely to be blindly following groups or be manipulated by them. This course will be a critical thinking course and will raise awareness to the power of culture, situations and the environment have on our day to day lives and to raise awareness of such phenomena

The teaching period of the CET courses begins already within the week from January 29, 2024, onwards. 

Because of the early beginning of the CET tuition period before the Faculty course registration is opened, students will not be able to register for the CET courses through the SIS.

In order to be allowed to enroll in the course, you have to:

  *   attend all classes of the particular course during the first week and sign in the attendance sheet form 

  *   send a registration e-mail to [e-mail] by February 2, 2024, to confirm that you would like to be enrolled in the course

If the number of students who fulfill these conditions exceeds the capacity of the course, the time of the registration e-mail decides the order of their enrolment. 

Successful students will be enrolled in the course in the SIS by the FHS International Office.


To get access to the CET facilities during the first week of classes, the students need to ring the doorbell at the main entrance to the CET Center in Palackého 3, Praha 1, and wait to be let in by a buzzer.

INFORMATION FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS:

Because the teaching period of CET courses begins early, these courses are available in spring semesters only for those exchange students who are spending a full academic year at Charles University. They can enroll in 2 CET courses per semester depending on the available capacity and are expected to select regular courses in addition to the CET (YBAC-coded) courses.

This is one of the courses held in cooperation with the partner institution CET Academic Programs, designed for the US students and the Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities.
These courses are scheduled either twice (2x90 min.) or once (1x180 min.) a week in the CET classrooms (Palackého 3, Praha 1).

Attendance is mandatory.

One copy of the reader will also be available in the CET Library.

Students  are required  to follow the instructions and requirements specified in the course syllabus. 

Final exams are held in the first half of May. There are also midterm exams.
