The course focuses on the major events, individuals, and issues which have played significant roles in the history of the Czech nation. The courses are constructed around major periods: 1. The Third Reich 1939-1945; Home resistance in Protectorate. Resistance in exile (Eastern/Western) 2. Stalinization 1948-1953; 3. 1960's and Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968; 4. Normalization 1970's; 5. 1980's and The Velvet Revolution 1989

This course opens to the students the way towards deeper understanding of the history of Czech-speaking lands in relation to the European context. They will discuss the themes of their interest with tutors specialized in various fields of history and cultural history.

The Department offers INDIVUDUAL COURSES ONLY, in order to overcome the possible language problems.

Course will be organized on-line. I need student emails. Courses will be every two weeks. I will send link from MS teams and links for study materials.

Time of the course will be defined on our first meeting. Expected time after 16.30.

If there is any opportunity to visit any important place personally, we will try to do that too (depends on governmental orders).

In this course, students will explore how the Nazi German and Communist Regimes controlled citizens' lives though a number of various 'everyday' strategies. The aim of the course is to introduce students to significant milestones and symbolical figures in Czech history, and to demonstrate the ambiguity of their interpretation to different political and historical contexts.

It includes visit to the Security Services Archives, National Memorial on the Vítkov Hill, Petschek Palace and The crypt in the church of St. Cyril and Methodius (the last place of resistance of the Operation Antropoid heroes). – Depends on COVID situation.

Evaluation of individual course including consultations: individual study course and consultation (at least ten hours), a written paper brings 6 ECTS.
