Is it hard to know what decision is right or wrong regarding your curriculum or career? You are not sure what to expect when enrolling in a particular program? You would have appreciated someone to advise you during your studies, and you would like to be this person for someone now? The main purpose of the course is to provide a Peer-Mentoring Program. Mentoring is a reciprocal relationship typically between two individuals in which one person shares their knowledge, skills and experience with another individual to help them progress personally and/or professionally. While students often meet their professors, access to a mentor who is closer in age and experience is often harder to find, especially in times of a pandemic. Being of closer experience to each other, allows to share experience without barriers, with a focus on science, university related topics, but also on extra-scientific aspects, such as personal or career growth. The course will facilitate the matching of participants, provide a framework to mentoring and provide insights into active listening, a key aspect of mentoring strategies.

This course will run throughout the semester, with a total of 30 hours per semester. In the first month we will meet weekly. We will have another meeting in the middle of the semester and one at the end of the semester to see how the Mentoring works and to discuss improvements. During the whole semester Mentor and Mentee will meet one on one.

Meetings with all the participants include:
1. Introduction into Mentoring. Do and do not’s.
◦ What your expectations & apprehensions are
◦ What to get out of Mentoring
◦ Match finding questionnaire
2. Exercise on asking questions/ building trust/ providing constructive feedback
3. Exercise on honesty/reliability/ethics
4. Exercise on goal setting
5. Exercise on getting started and wrap up
6. Mid-Term session: Experiences and difficulties.
7. Closing session: Summary, experience.
