Students will learn about the development of Israeli arts: their origins in European culture and mentalities; their development through the interaction of artists and intellectuals with the Israeli/Palestinian landscape, culture, and heritage; the division of homogeneous culture into separate and often conflicting currents, and their rivalry over recognition and resources. |

After attending the course, students will, hopefully, master these skills: ⋅ Understand the development of the different currents of Israeli culture and the arts. ⋅ Recognize how different art forms, genres and styles reflect various social, political, and cultural groups. ⋅ Develop abilities to recognize the use and abuse of local stereotypes in Israeli movies and the arts. ⋅ Understand the cultural clashes in Israel and their artistic reflections. |
