The course is lectured by Professor Stefano Redaelli and dr hab. Przemysław Kordos (University of Warsaw)

The course is scheduled to run according to students' interests and language capabilities. As it will run in the summer semester, pre-knowledge of students' levels and preferences will allow coordinators to much class topics.
They will revolve around various cultural and literary phenomena in Italy, Spain and Greece. The cultural phenomena will be based on case-studies such carnival customs or eating habits. The literary part will show students trends in contemporary Italian, Spanish and/or Greek literature, based on parts of literary texts, published in the last 40 years.
A comparative element to both cultural and literary part will be introduced as well.
The final aim is to read at least a part material in original languages, but if it is not reachable, the English equivalents will be duly provided.

Expected learning outcomes
a. Knowledge:
An alumni:
- knows how to use terms used in humanities, especially in literary and cultural studies,
- knows how to use methods of analysis and interpretation of scholarly texts,
- understands the dynamic relation between cultural processes in regard to various contemporary cultures.

b. Skills:
An alumni:
- can select and critically assess information adopted from various academic and literary publications,
- knows how to formulate a research question within humanities,
- knows how to use interdisciplinary research methods to analyze various cultural phenomena.

c. Social competences:
An alumni:
- is willing to further develop their academic skills in humanities and tries to keep up to date with the latest research methods and paradigms
- is empathetic and respects the cultural diversity of a community
- respects the cultural and natural heritage and diversity of a community
Assessment
- final essay (75%)
- Class participation, based on individual presentation, and occasional quizzes (25%)
