Rules of practical classes and credits in Physiology II for the academic year 2022-2023
Organization of Physiology teaching in summer term 2022-2023 Lectures and practical classes and seminars will be taught onsite. Organization of practical classes may change depending on current epidemic situation, government as well as university directives. Entry to the Department of Physiology will not be allowed to students with obvious signs of an illness and symptoms of acute infectious disease (e.g. body temperature equal to or exceeding 37°C, cough, shortness of breath, etc.). Body temperature might be checked by contactless thermometer.
Practical classes Students come properly prepared for performing the planned practical tasks(s) and knowing the theory immediately related to the task(s). Extent of theoretical knowledge necessary for practical class in outlined by a teacher. Extent of practical preparedness is given by the Manuals for the Practical Classes in Physiology or by instruction manuals published via Moodle, alternatively it might by also outlined by a teacher. The beginning of practical class is usually devoted to testing the above mentioned student knowledge. If a serious negligence of preparedness is revealed by the assistant, such student is dismissed from practical class and an absence is recorded. If not stated otherwise, there is a ban on using personal electronic devices (mobile phones, recorders etc.) during practical classes. Failure to comply with this rule will be supervised by the Head of the Department of Physiology. Late coming irrespective of reason or deliberately leaving class earlier will be considered and recorded as absence.
Procotols Each student has to record results and discussion of every performed practical task in the specified room in Manuals for the Practical Calsses in Physiology. This shall be completed before leaving each onsite class, if not agreed on otherwise with the teacher. Student have to follow the arrangement of the records in the Manuals and fill in all expected data. The emphasis lies on capturing the results and analysing them. Erroneous results are accepted; however students are required to provide suggestions on the reason of flaws. In case of remote practical tuition, notes made in the Manuals may be replaced by different handouts provided to students for completing of solving.
Seminars Seminars are intended for deeper repetition of current topic and student consultatitons with the teacher. Students are asked to select some of the published themes and deliver short oral presentations. We recommend booking at least 3 themes for each seminar with each presentation lasting up to 10 - 15 minutes. Each contribution is followed by discussion.
Obtaining a credit grade Credit will be given to the students, who fulfil the attendance requirements, have passed the examinations in each of the individual physiology system in that semester and have presented the completed practical class protocols. a) Attendance: Students are required to attend all practical (laboratory) classes. The number of absences must not exceed 15 % of all practical claseses. If more than 15 % of practical classes per term are missed the re-examination from all practical classes in semester is required. If more than 40 % of practical classes per term are missed the situation will be supervised by the Head ot the Deparment of Physiology. Late coming is not accepted and then absence is recorded. Students are not allowed to leave practical before it is offically finished by the teacher. Leaving practical earlier will be considered as absence (unless permitted by the teacher). b) Tests: At the end of laboratory classes in each sytem, a seminar will be held during which the students will be tested on that system. In order to receive a credit, student must score at least "good" in all tests. The test will be in the form of a multiple choice questionnaire. Those students who fail the test will take 1st correction test (the date will be announced in advance). There will be dates for 2nd correction at the end of summer term.
Final examination in physiology For registration and admission to final examination students must receive credits in both winter and summer term. Registration and re-registration can be done only through SIS. Signing up for final examination will be possilbe from 15th May 2023 7 p.m. The number of announced dates for a regular term will take into account the total number of students. More dates will be for the 1st or 2nd retake and will be announced with regard to the current need. Students are required to come on the date and time of exam booked in SIS. If a student can,t take the exam, it is his/her duty to cancel the term in SIS. If this is no longer possible, it is student,s duty to make an apology via e-mail fyziols@lfhk.cuni.cz, otherwise one exam attempt (out of possible three) is lost. The examination is only oral. Use of electronic devices (cell phones, tablets, notebooks etc.) unauthorized materials or communication with other students is strictly prohibited. After selecting final exam questions, it is not allowed to leave the room and when necessary, an excort will be provided. In case of failure to comply with these rules, student will be classified "fail" an such misconduct will be reported to the Disciplinary Board of the faculty. |

Intermediary metabolism (carbohydrates, lipids and proteins). Nutrition. Problems in human nutrition (obesity, malnutrition, starvation). Kidney - renal circulation, glomerular filtration.
