The subject is framed as theoretical and practical. It systematically defines nursing as a modern discipline with its own philosophy, system of values, subject of research, and with its own methodology. It makes students familiar with historical development of nursing in Czech Republic and elsewhere in the world, and with the main tasks and functions of nursing in society. It allows students to understand the main task of professional nursing practice, which is to maintain and satisfy essential needs of patients /clients, families and communities. It provides introduction to the classification of human needs based on a different disciplines and authors and it focuses on reactions and manifestations of unsatisfied needs of healthy people, sick people, people with disabilities and the dying. From the practical point of view, there is a focus on teaching of nursing procedures and interventions in laboratory conditions and in clinical practice. Practical exercises allow students to acquire main manual skills and assurance of a safe and quality implementation of nursing procedures and patient related interventions.

  • Understanding the context of historical development in the field of nursing until present day
  • Understanding basics of holistic philosophy and holistic approach to human health care;
  • Understanding basic concepts that create the metaparadigm of nursing;
  • Mastering the thought algorithm and the phases of nursing process;
  • Learning standard naming of human responses to acute and potential health problems;
  • Understanding problems of human needs satisfaction as a basic task of nursing;
  • Understanding the concept of human needs in nursing;
  • Mastering the knowledge and skills necessary for safe practice during the process of satisfaction of individual patient´s needs;
  • Mastering the basics of communication with the patient in nursing care;
  • Acquiring manual skills for implementation of individual nursing procedures;
  • Being aware of the consequences of unprofessional interventions in providing individual care.

  • Oral exam

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION IN SUMMER SEMESTR

  • Only two absences in seminars in practical training classrooms, and absences during nursing clinical practice (absence because of a sickness is acceptable);
  • No absence during nursing clinical practice (absence because of a sickness is acceptable);
  • Successful passing of the credit test.

  • The conditions for passing clinical nursing practice:
  • The condition for the fulfillment clinical practice is to meet all required exercises and interventions in the lab and medical certificate to carry out practical training in a health care facility and immunization against transmissible diseases according to valid law.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION IN WINTER SEMESTR 2020/21

Contact teaching is replaced by online teaching.

Successful completion of the credit test according to predefined criteria.

The credit test will be entered using LS Moodle.

  • Holistic approaches in nursing care;
  • Ethical standards in nursing;
  • Nursing care organizations. Quality and standardization of nursing care;
  • Introduction to communication in health care;
  • Human needs in nursing care I. – theoretical introduction;
  • Human needs in nursing care II. – in the scope of health perception – health maintaining processes, nutrition and metabolism, elimination, activities and exercises, rest and sleep, in scope of perception and recognition, self-approach and self-respect of the patient, in scope of social roles repletion (satisfaction) and interpersonal relationships, sexuality and reproductive abilities, in scope of stress management and stressful situations and in area of religion, faith and values;
  • Home care and hospice care;
  • Pain as a nursing issue;
  • Measuring techniques in nursing care;
  • Mobility and immobility in nursing care;
  • Iatropathogenesis and sororigenesis – harming the patient by inappropriate behavior of health care providers;
  • Health care provider´s duties;
