This course covers morphology and syntax according to the Cambridge Latin Course Book II (stages 19+20) and Book III (stages 21-28).

The Cambridge Latin Course is the most popular and most successful Latin course in the UK. With over 4,000,000 copies sold, its methods are well established and highly effective.

There are five Books in the Cambridge Latin Course which take students from beginner to Level 2/GCSE. The story-based Course provides an enjoyable and carefully paced introduction to the Latin language, complemented by background information on Roman culture and civilisation. The material progresses from simple stories written specially for the Course, through adaptations of Roman authors, to original texts. The texts are accompanied by explanations of key language points, and are supported by grammar practice exercises.

CLC II:
In Book II, we travel to two distant Roman provinces, both very different from each other. Exotic Egypt will be the final destination, but first, explore a Roman province on the very edge of the Empire where it is cold and wet. Welcome to Britannia!

CLC III
Quintus' mission in Britain continues - to find Barbillus' son, Rufus. But the news from the province is not good: Cogidubnus, king of one of the British tribes, is seriously ill.

Prepare for a race against time as our hero, Quintus, gets involved in conspiracy, chases and deadly intrigue, as we journey to the legionary fortress of Chester, and first, to the spa-town of Bath.

Poslední úprava: Eva Zezulková (20.02.2024)

The students are able to read and translate simple Latin texts on their own. They know complete 1st-3rd declensions, incl. adjectives and possessive pronouns, and understand the use of all the past tenses. As for the syntax, they know result, purpose, cum clauses, as well as indirect commands and indirect questions in the past.

Metody výuky - angličtina
Poslední úprava: Eva Zezulková (20.02.2024)

While reading and translating the texts, the students discover the grammarical rules and laws.

We will discuss the Latin vocabulary to map the patterns and the system of loanwords to English and other languages.

A substantial part of the learning process happens through obligatory homework (see https://dl1.cuni.cz/course/view.php?id=11061#section-0).

The form of the course depends on the restrictions:

- should the on-campus learning be allowed, the course would run in a hybrid regime: classroom classes that will be streamed online for those who can't be present + Moodle practices and reading at home.

- should the on-campus learning is restricted, the course would be consist again of online classes on Zoom combined with Moodle practices and readings at home.
