The lecture series focuses on various aspects of the functioning of Greek sanctuaries and their detailed understanding from the perspective of Classical Archaeology. What sites were chosen for the construction of temples? How were sacrifices performed? Did the sanctuaries differ according to which of the Greek gods was worshipped there? These and other questions will be addressed and answered through a series of examples from the ancient Greek world. A rudimentary knowledge of Greek temple architecture and topography, which are not given detailed attention here, is an advantage to the listener, not a prerequisite.
