This is one of the courses of the study abroad Undergraduate Program in Central European Studies (UPCES) held in cooperation with the partner institution CERGE-EI. It is designed for the US students participating in the programme as a whole while the Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities are welcome to select single courses from the programme. This lively and original course is open to students who have an interest in studying the social and political transition in Central Europe through an understanding of its cinema. This is not a traditional film course: We will focus on the films’ social, political and historical contexts.

This lively and original course is open to students who have an interest in studying the social and political transition in Central Europe through an understanding of its cinema. This is not a traditional film course: We will focus on the films’ social, political and historical contexts. Films produced behind the Iron Curtain were not considered only commercial products. They were instruments of artistic expression and ideology, and also of protest and testimony. The stories of the postwar Czech, Slovak, Polish and Hungarian film industries – the fate and the moral dilemmas of their most talented artists and their specific and strong film language before and after the political changes in Europe of 1989 – will be a discovery for those seeing the films for the first time (as well as for those already familiar with them but who wish to enlarge their knowledge).

Program UPCES je semestrální výukový program připravený pro studenty amerických univerzit a studenty UK FHS. Program je společným projektem UK FHS a CERGE-EI ( www.cerge-ei.cz) a výuku zajišťují přednášející z UK FHS i CERGE-EI. Americkým studentům je tento program nabízen jako celek; studenti UK FHS mají možnost zapsat si jednotlivé kurzy z nabídky pro daný semestr (vzhledem k náročnosti kurzu maximálně 2 kurzy v semestru) a aktivně se zapojit do doprovodných akcí a exkurzí. - pozor! všechny UPCES kurzy vyžadují pravidelnou docházku.

Protože jsou kurzy UPCES nabízeny studentům z USA a z FHS (českým i zahraničním), je u těchto kurzů omezená kapacita a také zkrácená doba zápisu .

V případě studentů bakalářského studijního programu je zápis do předmětu možný až od 2. semestru studia.

Podmínky zápisu: REGISTRACE v SIS a ÚČAST NA VÝUCE V PRVNÍCH 2 TÝDNECH VÝUKY (PODLE ROZVRHU DANÉHO KURZU). 

Pokud student tyto podmínky nesplní, je z kurzu vyřazen a kurz si v daném semestru nemůže zapsat.

• V případě, že tyto podmínky splní větší počet studentů, než je kapacita kurzu, pro zápis bude rozhodující čas registrace v SIS(pořadí registrace lze zjistit na hodině v docházkovém listu u přednášejícího).
• V případě překročení kapacity kurzu budou také vyřazeni studenti, kteří mají zapsány více než 2 kurzy z programu UPCES.

Vzhledem k tomu, že je o kurzy velký zájem, probíhá zápis jinou formou než u ostatních kurzů z nabídky UK FHS. U těchto kurzů se rozlišuje mezi registrací a zápisem: u kurzu je nastaven počet studentů k registraci, který je větší než vlastní kapacita kurzu. Registrací student vyjádří svůj zájem o kurz, ovšem kurz bude zapsán pouze studentům, kteří splní výše uvedené podmínky zápisu a vejdou se do kapacity kurzu. Jedná se o administrativní opatření, jehož cílem je zvýšit šanci studentů na registraci.

Pokud se po první hodině rozhodnete kurz dále nenavštěvovat, s ohledem na své kolegy se co nejdříve ze systému odhlašte.

Kapacita kurzu: 3 (čeští studenti včetně samoplátců) a 3 (zahraniční non-degree studenti)

 

Pozor v zimních semestrech: termín zahájení výuky v UPCES kurzech je již na konci září.

The UPCES courses are held in cooperation with our partner CERGE-EI. While the US students are enrolled in the programme as a whole,  the FHS degree students (both Czech and international ones) as well as the exchange students of the Faculty of Humanities are welcome to select single courses from the course offerings of this programme. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT these courses require regular attendance.

In order to be enrolled in the course, you have to:

• be registered in the SIS
• attend all classes during the first two weeks

If the number of students who fulfil these condition outreaches the capacity of the course, the time of registration decides. You may see whether you are within the capacity or not in the attendance sheet that teacher will bring to classes.

The overall number of UPCES courses to be enrolled is limited to the maximum of 2 courses per semester (the FHS degree students - both Czech and international ones).

The overall number of UPCES courses to be enrolled in might be limited to the maximum of 2 (3) courses per semester (the FHS Erasmus and other non-degree students) depending on course capacity.

In order to allow other students to register, please do not forget to unregister from all the courses you decide not to take as soon as possible.

This is one of the UPCES courses held in cooperation with the partner institution CERGE-EI, designed for the US students and the Czech and international students of the Faculty of Humanities.

These courses are scheduled either twice (2x90 min.) or once (1x180 min.) a week in the CERGE-EI classrooms (Politických vězňů 7, Praha 1)or in the Jinonice Campus.

Regular attendance is required.

Students are allowed to miss only one class per semester.
