This course opens to the students the way towards deeper understanding of the history of Czech-speaking lands in relation to the European context. They will discuss the themes of their interest with tutors specialized in various fields of history and cultural history. The Department offers INDIVIDUAL COURSES ONLY, in order to overcome the possible language problems.

The students prepare their own projects in accordance with their individual academic specializations, and we expect them to work independently under the guidance of the particular specialists. There will be at least two lessons poviding general overview, in the next lessons the students will discuss their topics with the teacher. When the situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemics requires lessons without physical contact, the lessons and consultation will be held online through MS Tems (the link will be provided).

The course will focus on the religious reformations, both protestant and catholic – from various points of view, including the relationship between religion and politics, social topics like gender or family, cultural themes or the complex social changes which the confessionalization brought. The focus will be mainly on Czech lands and the confessional clash here, because this era played big part in forming of the Czech national identity.
