This is an introductory course to vadose zone hydrology. The course begins with different soil characteristics such as soil phases and mineralogy, and soil water content and potential. With the knowledge of soil physical properties the course moves to its core focus - the understanding of steady water flow and solute transport in unsaturated environment. The course combines the theory, lab measurements, and mathematical modelling (programs RETC and Hydrus 1-D). An excursion to the Research Institute for Soil and Water Conservation is also part of the course.

Předmět bude nahrazen kurzem Vadose zone hydrology (MG451P38).

Požadavky ke zkoušce - angličtina
Poslední úprava: Mgr. Tomáš Weiss, Ph.D. (09.10.2017)

The credit is awarded, apart from the exam, for home assignments and for presentating a scientific paper.

The exam is written in the form of questions based on lectures and practical exercises. The final mark consists of the final test (60%) and the submitted assignments (40%).

The evaluation of the assignments is based on terminology (correct terminology in the right context), conclusion and discussion (!) (existence and accuracy of the statement, justification of the statement, data interpretation, deficiencies in measurement / modeling, suggestion of possible improvements), data collection and processing (accuracy of measurement, marking of data, units, processing, considering inaccuracy of measurement), conceptual model (!) (area, material, marginal and initial conditions, type of task / equation), calibration (justification for the use of individual calibration parameters).
