The subject is framed as theoretical and practical. It systematically defines nursing as a modern discipline with its own philosophy, system of values, subject of research, and with its own methodology. It makes students familiar with historical development of nursing in Czech Republic and elsewhere in the world, and with the main tasks and functions of nursing in society. It allows students to understand the main task of professional nursing practice, which is to maintain and satisfy essential needs of patients /clients, families and communities. It provides introduction to the classification of human needs based on a different disciplines and authors and it focuses on reactions and manifestations of unsatisfied needs of healthy people, sick people, people with disabilities and the dying. From the practical point of view, there is a focus on teaching of nursing procedures and interventions in laboratory conditions and in clinical practice. Practical exercises allow students to acquire main manual skills and assurance of a safe and quality implementation of nursing procedures and patient related interventions.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION IN WINTER SEMESTR 2020/21 Contact teaching is replaced by online teaching. Successful completion of the credit test according to predefined criteria. The credit test will be entered using LS Moodle.

Hygienic requirements for the service of healthcare facilities 6. Decontamination, disinfection, sterilization 7. Hygienic protection of hands in health care 8. Admission, transfer and discharge of the patient 9. Patient's bed, bedmaking 10. Positions of patients, preventive positioning 11. Use of heat and cold in treatment 12. Patient personal hygiene. 13. Applying bandages - bandage material, bandage technique, wound dressings 14. Preoperative preparation of the patient 15. Postoperative patient care 16. Prevention of pressure ulcers and care of pressure ulcers 17. Monitoring, measuring and evaluating respiration and body temperature 18. Monitoring, measuring and evaluating heart rate and blood pressure 19. Monitoring, measuring and evaluating the state of consciousness 20. Catheterization of the bladder 21. Enema application 22. Administration of drugs per os and other non-injection methods of drug administration 23. Application of drugs to the respiratory tract - inhalation 24. Application of drugs under the skin and into the skin 25. Application of drugs into the muscle 26. Application of drugs into a vein 27. Introduction of IV cannula 28. Application of infusions, parenteral nutrition 29. Application of transfusion 30. Blood sampling for examination 31. Urine collection for examination 32.
