The objective of the internship is to familiarise the student with the day-to-day operations of their workplace and to enable supervised practical activities. To familiarise students with the fundamentals of investigative methods in order to gain practical experience of the operation of a non-faculty facility. The summer internship after the 5th year is based on the knowledge gained during 5th year courses. The student chooses an internship from one of the courses they have taken. Fields of practice III and IV must be different from fields of practice I and II. Practice in gynaecology and obstetrics - 20 gynaecological examinations under the supervision of a gynaecologist, observation of the work of a doctor in the ward and outpatient department, keeping documentation, communication with patients, assisting in abdominal operations, possibly also vaginal operations and small surgical procedures. Assisting in the delivery room, 10 obstetric examinations under the supervision of a board-certified gynaecologist, reception of the parturient, care of the parturient, assisting in at least 5 deliveries, assisting in the postnatal care of the parturient, assisting or observing the work of the gynaecologist during caesarean section. Practice from other disciplines will always take place in the inpatient department of the selected discipline with an outpatient component. The internship involves observing the work of the physician during the patient's admission, examination, documentation, treatment design, indication for examination, discharge and preparation of the discharge report. Participation in grand rounds and morning physician sessions, differential diagnostic reasoning over patient outcomes and treatment design. Monitoring physician performance during outpatient appointments, communicating with patients, completing an outpatient report and evaluating results. Specifics of individual disciplines: The infectious medicine practice includes detailed exposure to the operation of the infectious disease ward and anti-epidemic measures for specific diagnoses. The practice of neurology includes training in neurological examination for various diagnoses, indication and assistance in performing lumbar puncture, management of acute conditions (e.g. indication and performance of CT brain in suspected stroke, etc.), performance of EEG, EMG and other neurological examination procedures. The oncology clerkship includes an introduction to specific treatment modalities including radiotherapy and the principles of chemotherapy and supportive oncology treatments. Practice in anaesthesiology and intensive care medicine includes observation of the work of the physician in the inpatient A&E department as well as observation of the work of the anaesthetist in the operating theatre. Assisting in various types of anaesthesia, intubation, extubation, familiarisation with the principles of monitoring critically ill patients, etc. The dermatology practice involves working in the dermatology department and observing the work of the dermatologist at the outpatient clinic, assisting with minor surgical procedures, using the dermatoscope, conducting venereal examinations and collecting materials. It is only possible to practise psychiatry in a psychiatric inpatient ward. In addition to the above, it involves observing the work of the physician in conducting patient interviews, differential diagnostic considerations and designing therapy, or individual or group psychotherapy together with psychologists. The internship completed in the surgical specialties from the 5th year (urology, orthopaedics, cardiac surgery) includes a placement in the wards of the chosen specialty. During the internship, the student will become familiar with the operation of the ward, admission, patient examination, documentation, discharge and writing the medical record. During the internship, the student participates repeatedly in the operating theatre - they become acquainted with the operation of operating theatres, various surgical techniques allowed by the specialty, methods of assisting in the operating theatre. Assisting with dressings, dressing the surgical wound and removing stitches. Surgical treatment of simple open wounds according to the limitations of the location. Assisting with outpatient treatment and monitoring of patients and attending night duty. Practice in urology includes training in male catheterisation and ultrasound examination of the male excretory and genital organs, physician observation during cystoscopic examination and specimen collection. In the case of internal medicine (internal medicine, paediatrics), the scope of practice is the same as after the 4th year. The student can choose internal medicine or paediatrics if they did not take them after the 4th year. Additionally, they can choose an internship in cardiology, where they assist in ECG, ECHO and interventional cardiology methods in addition to the described tasks in the ward and outpatient department.
