This seminar introduces selected short-story writers, their works, and the possibilities of text interpretation. Emphasis is placed on common discussion in the class. At the same time, students will try to translate selected excerpts into Czech, and we will discuss the methods and possibilities of translating contemporary fiction. This seminar does not overlap with those of the previous years - it can be taken regardless whether one attended any of those.

V PŘÍPADĚ NAPLNĚNÍ VÁS RÁDA ZAPÍŠI NAD LIMIT (každý rok někdo odpadne) - ozvěte se na [e-mail]. PROSÍM, ZAPISUJTE SE POUZE POKUD POČÍTÁTE S PRůBĚŽNOU PRACÍ A PŘÍPRAVOU. Seminář vedený v angličtině seznámí studenty s vybranými převážně současnými americkými a anglickými autory a autorkami povídek, s jejich dílem a s možnými způsoby interpretace. Důraz bude kladen na společnou diskusi nad vybranými texty. Zároveň se studenti budou pokoušet překládat vybrané úryvky povídek do češtiny a budeme se obecně zamýšlet nad způsoby a možnostmi překladu beletrie.

* Requirements:
For every class, students shall read a short story in English and fulfill a brief writing assignment connected to the text.

It is necessary to be ready for online version of the course - have MS TEAMS connection with CAMERA and MICROPHONE. Active weekly participation is obligatory, maximum two absences allowed.

Požadavky:
Na každý seminář si každý student přečte zadanou povídku v angličtině a splní písemné zadání (spojené s daným textem).

Pro případ nutnosti distanční výuky je nutné mít možnost připojení na MS TEAMS a to i s kamerou a mikrofonem. Aktivní účast na hodinách je povinná, dovoleny jsou max. 2 absence.
