The course provides the students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills of first aid.
Aim of the course

The course provides the students with theoretical knowledge and practical skills of care for victims during different types of emegrencies (life-threatening conditions, sudden illnesses, injuries). The students will be able to provide the adequate first aid in adults and children in life-threatening situations and sudden illnesses.

The goal of the subject is to equip the student with such knowledge and skills that after graduation:

 

• demonstrates knowledge of the basic causes, symptoms and procedures of FA in life-threatening conditions, in head, chest, abdomen, spine and musculoskeletal injuries, in thermal injuries and in selected acute non-traumatic conditions

• is able to demonstrate control of consciousness , control of breath and opening of  airways

• is able to demonstrate techniques for removing a foreign body from the airways

• is able to perform emergency resuscitation in adults and children, including the use of a training AED device

• is able to demonstrate basic FA positions

Syllabus -

1. Introduction to first aid, the meaning and the types of first aid. Basic principles of first aid The basic steps of first aid. Legal liability.

2. Assessing the situation. Assessing the casualties - primary survey, response, airway - practical training.

3. First aid in unconscious person, not breathing casualty. Basic life support /resuscitation/ -adults - practical training. AED (automatic external defibrillation).

4. Airways obstruction, methods of removing the obstruction. Resuscitation in children.

5. External and internal bleeding, shock prevention. Practical approach - methods to stop the bleeding.

6. Spine and head injury, chest and abdominal injury. Practical training.

7. Drowning. Electrical injuries. Risk reduction.

8. Acute (not-traumatic) situations: chest pain, respiratory problems, seizures etc.. Practical training...

9. Managing a traffic incident and major incident.

10. Cold and heat injuries. Poisoning.

11. Injuries of limbs. Wounds, basics of bandaging.

12. Allergic reactions. Animal bites and stings in outdoor conditions.

13. Casualty handling.

14. Revision - BLS, resuscitace …. Practical, “model“situations.
