The aim of teaching of the subject is to acquire deeper approach to education aiming to disturb some typical pedagogical stereotype and to point out the antinomy of (post)modern education. Basic educational archetypes and their applicability in the present. Dialectics of relation between educans and educandus etc.

1. Students become familiar with the basic terminology of philosophy of education.

2. Students interpret the dilemmas of contemporary antinomian education.

3. Students study one of the antinomies of contemporary education in depth and write a term paper on it.

4. Students will master the essay form of academic writing.

5. Students will be able to present their own ideas on selected educational topics.

6. Students will be able to compare their own findings with conventional and/or dissenting expert opinions from research and eventually argue with them.

Write a written essay of at least 5400 characters (including spaces) and send it to bednar@ftvs.cuni.cz no later than 31.8.2023 (but not before the last lesson!). Approximately 2 pages to be written based on your own reflections and experiences; approximately 1 page to compare your findings with the opinions of experts in the field (including at least one full-text source citation, including a specific page). Content should be selected from one of the nine ANTINOMIES of (not only) postmodern education:

1. Education as HELP versus education as MANIPULATION

2. The educator's POWER versus his POWERLESSNESS

3. Education has no end or the educator is also EDUCATED (educandus)

4. The common claim of culture versus the uniqueness of INDIVIDUALITY

5. Education for LIBERTY versus education for HUMANITY

6. LIMITATIONS and POSSIBILITIES of education itself

(the sphere of formation versus the sphere of freedom)

7. SYSTEMATICITY of education versus the risk of PEDANTERY

8. The school of PLAY versus the school of WORK and STUDY

9. Size of IDEALS versus REALITY (material and/or social)
