The subject content is work with instrumentation in the context of the musculoskeletal system. The student is introduced to both theoretical and practical measurement procedures in the work of a physiotherapist. Practically, the student will study ultrasonography, stress measurements, kinematic analysis, pedobarography and other procedures. Objectification methods are included with the so-called state courses, forming an important part of the physiotherapist's education. The teaching is designed both by theoretical lectures and compulsory practical work in laboratories. Knowledge of objectification methods should guide the student in the preparation of his/her thesis.

The aim of the course is to equip the student with such knowledge, skills and general competences that after its completion:

- Demonstrates the ability to assess the appropriateness of the use of objectification methods for given movement program objectives, manifestations and disorders
- demonstrates knowledge of the use of electromyography, posturography, cardiovascular stress testing, sonography and its use in musculoskeletal diagnosis, thermography, qualitative image analysis of movement

- is able to take a critical view of the use of given methods in relation to a given problem

- is able to understand medical reports with a clinical focus on imaging methods

- be able to decide which objectification procedure is appropriate for a given patient diagnosis

PFYZ223 Objectivization methods

The prerequisite for successful completion of the course is obtaining credit (see credit requirements) and then passing a written test on the topics listed below (see exam requirements).

Principles of data objectification and objective interpretation of data, measurement error.
Kinematic analysis of motion, methods of kinematic monitoring.
Dynamic analyses of motion, methods of monitoring forces, energies and performances.
Ultrasonography (US) of the musculoskeletal system, principles and role of ultrasonography in physiotherapy practice.
The principle and role of electroencephalography (EEG) in the practice of the physiotherapist.
The principle and role of electromyography (EMG) in the practice of physiotherapy.
The principle and role of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in physiotherapy practice.
The principle and role of computed tomography (CT) in physiotherapy practice.
The principle and role of thermal imaging in physiotherapy practice.
Principle and role of ergometric, spirometric and spiroergometric examinations in physiotherapy practice.
Stress diagnosis, performance testing, field tests.
Clinical examination of postural stability.
Principles and role of X-ray imaging (XRF) for physiotherapy practice.
Qualitative and quantitative assessment of muscle strength.
The role of electrocardiological testing (ECG).
The potential of blood pressure and heart rate imaging for physiotherapy practice.
Anthropometric methods of examination, range of motion testing.

The course is taught in the form of lectures and related practical sessions. The lectures are common for all students, the practicals are divided into 3 groups. The teaching is carried out according to a specific timetable (see the study guide, MOODLE 2). Practicals in 3 laboratories of the faculty - BEZ Laboratory, Biomedical Laboratory and classroom in U2.
