The series of lectures provides a thorough description of both phonological and phonetic aspects of individual segments and their relationships. The seminars focus mainly on pronunciation practice of selected features and the development of transcription skills.

2) speech and writing; speech organs; production of speech; types of transcription

3) English vowels (pure vowels)

4) English vowels (length of vowels; diphthongs, triphthongs)

5) English consonants I (general classification; plosives)

6) English consonants II (fricatives, affricates, nasals and approximants)

7) allophonic variation (aspiration, pre-fortis shortening, clear and dark l, devoicing)

8) connected speech (assimilation; elision; linking)
