Hlavním cílem kurzu je obeznámit studenty s různými funkcemi a varietami jazyka a jejich společenskou relevancí v kontextu jazykové výuky. Důraz je kladen na to, jak vznikají normy, postoje a standardy a jak ovlivňují jazykové chování a společnost jako takovou.
