The aim of the so-called video club is to develop the pedagogical content knowledge of student teachers through the analysis of video recordings of English language teaching. The emphasis is on the development of students' professional vision, i.e. the ability to identify significant moments in teaching (noticing) and interpret them with the support of experience and didactic knowledge (knowledge-based reasoning). If the situation permits, the teaching will be attended by a cooperating experienced teacher from practice, whose recordings will be the main subject of our analyses and whose insight will therefore allow us to see the observed lessons in a deeper context. The video club is organised in the form of blended learning, combining home preparation and face-to-face meetings. The homework consists of watching selected video clips of the lessons as instructed and preparing for discussion through written reflections on the video clips. The sessions then include discussions of the given lessons and elicitation of relevant didactic theories. The course thus effectively connects the practical and theoretical level of ELT methodology, as theory is elicited from practical examples, and further generalised. Alternative completion of the study subject: The subject is an extension of ELT methodology study subjects. The aim of this course is therefore to further develop the students' professional vision through the analysis of video recordings of English language teaching in primary and mainly in lower as well as upper secondary schools through the design, implementation and evaluation of own reflective instruments. Students in groups will develop a 'Video Study' project - i.e. plan a video recording of a lesson taught by a teacher of own choice. The project work will include collection of relevant field data, the educational context of the recording, i.e. lesson planning, reflection on the teacher's teaching, to the broader context of the video recording (the teacher's philosophy and approach to foreign language teaching or education in general, the school environment, etc.). Based on the video study, an analysis and evaluation of the lesson will be made and the course will end with presentations of the projects.
