The aim of the course is to introduce the major schools, approaches and trends of literary theory from the second half of the 20th century to the present, particularly structuralist, psychoanalytical, reception, marxist and feminist theories as a basis for the poststructuralist and postmodernist theories. In all these cases the course also introduces the major thinkers and representatives of these critical schools. The theoretical part of the couse is practically demonstrated on selected English-written literary texts. Themes: 1. Historical outline 2. Formalist theories 3. Structuralism 4. Psychoanalytic criticism 5. Reder-Response theory 6. Marxist criticism 7. Feminist criticism 8. Gender Studies criticism 9. Poststructuralist criticism 10. Literary postmodernism 11. New Historicism

Předmět je zakončen písemnou zkouškou - testem hodnoceným známkou. Podmínkou pro úspěšné absolvování testu je dosažení alespoň 70 procent z celkového počtu bodů. Na absolvování zkoušky má student jeden řádný a dva opravné pokusy.
