The course inquiries into current trends and challenges of early childhood education and care in Europe. The course content follows the subject Comparative Education taught in the same semester, for theoretical information and allows students to gain experience with the implementation of the comparison of selected aspects relating to pre-primary education. Students will actively work with information sources of the European Commission, OECD, UNESCO, etc. The course focuses on the diversity of education systems and educational reality in European countries. Students will focus on development trends and important topics related to current developments in pre-primary education in Europe. Part of the lessons are dedicated to topics chosen by students during previous lessons. Lessons are conducted through lectures, discussion and active work with information sources. The outcomes of the course are group presentations. Themes: 1) Structures of ECEC and public policies concerning ECEC, resp. pre-primary education. 2) Family supporting measures from international perspective. 3) Aspects of Quality in ECEC. 4) Education guidelines and their developments from international perspective. 5) Specific language support measures for children. 6) Outcomes, assessment and reporting in pre-primary education.
