The course focuses on getting to know methods of research in mathematics education and local and international research on the topic of the PhD student's work. By preparing a theoretical background of his/her research, the PhD student shows deep knowledge of the current state of research in the given area, while distinguishing basic research streams from the marginal ones. The theoretical background can become a part of the appropriate chapter of the PhD thesis.

The goals of the course are:

  • to orientate oneself in various research methods used in mathematics education and choose methods suitable for one's own research
  • to prepare a project of one's own research including the proposal of data analysis, possibly with a carried out pre-experiment
  • to orientate oneself in current research in mathematics education both in CZ and abroad
  • to include one's own research into local and foreign contexts
  • to prepare a theoretical background on one's research based on the study of literature
