The aim of the course is the development of language skills equivalent to C1 (CEFR). The course aims at the following areas: the improvement of language accuracy, fluency and the overall complexity of students’ spoken and written discourse; the systematic enrichment of vocabulary, including collocations, idioms, phasal verbs and abstract concepts. The students are encouraged to perceive the language system as a whole and to acquire the use of less frequent phenomena.

Grammar topics:
1. Tense and aspect (expressing past time)
2. Expressing future time

Cílem předmětu je postupný rozvoj jazykových dovedností studentů k úrovni C1 Společného evropského referenčního rámce pro jazyky. Kurz se zaměřuje na jazykovou správnost, plynulost a komplexnost jazykového projevu, systematicky se rozšiřuje slovní zásoba, včetně kolokací, idiomů, frázových sloves a abstraktních pojmů. Studenti jsou vedeni k chápání mluvnice jako systému, jejich znalosti v této oblasti se rozšiřují o méně frekventované jevy vyskytující se v probíraných textech.

Requirements to the exam -

1. active participation in seminars
2. completion of all assigned tasks (home preparation, self-study)
3. written test
- the test comprises two parts
a. reading and listening
b. the vocabulary and grammar discussed in the seminars
- there is one re-sit
- in order to pass the test, the students have to achieve the minimum of 70% in both parts (a, b above)
- the completion of the essay is a pre-requisite for taking the written test
