The course broadens the discussion of the topics introduced in Lexicology. Its aim is to familiarise the students with a wide scale of types of encoding meaning in language. The main focus is on lexical meaning, however, sentence semantics, logic and semiotics are also discussed. The content emphasises the everyday use of meaning and provides the students with an insight into the realia of the English-speaking countries. Such understanding can be crucial for correct contextual interpretation and helps to demonstrate how meaning perception in Slavonic languages differs. Having completed this course should help students understand meaning from different theoretical perspectives and gain elementary semantic practice for foreign language teaching which respects and adequately develops pupils' skills.
