Practical harmony is a selection of the harmony as the theoretical discipline, whose practical control on a keyboard is a necessary condition for the performance of the profession of primary school teacher. Most phenomena are presented on the issue of folk song arrangements. The course also includes an introduction to the harmonious analysis of compositions of instrumental and vocal literature of Classicism and Romanticism. The lessons take the form of e-larning in Moodle particularly.

The aim of the course is to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of classical-romantic harmony focused on their use in music education practice. Continuous development of piano skills needed to improvise song accompaniment.

A play of 40 folk songs with their own accompaniment and with the justification of the used harmonic phenomena. Harmonic analysis of a children's composition for listening (at the level of Tchaikovsky, Schumann - Album for Youth, Hurník - Džezík, Hradecký - Small Jazz Album, etc.)

Syllabus -

1. Basic harmonic terms and their characteristics.
2. Construction of quintacords, septacords and their turnovers.
3. Harmonization of folk songs using the main quintacords. Half and all conclusion.
4. Harmonization of folk songs with the use of minor quad chords and dominant seventh chord.
5. Mimotonal chords accompanied by folk songs.
6. Folk double voice. Quodlibet and its harmonization.
7. Basic forms of stylized accompaniment. Overture, Interlude and Play in Folk Song.
8. Melodic tones.
9. Diatonic modulation.
10. Chords of third-relation, chromatic modulation.
11. Harmonic analysis of the instructive composition of the Classical period.
12. Harmonic analysis of the Romantic period.

3 credits = 90 hours:

class - 8 hours,

preparation for classes - 24 hours,
