The aim of the subject is to create and further evolve productive and receptive qualities connected with academic style of writing. The course focuses mainly on development of critical treatment of sources, structuring and editing one’s own work as well as understanding of key methods of writing and the overall ethics of research. Themes: 1. Academic writing in English – motivation, ethics, focus 2. Structure of academic texts, argumentation 3. The basics of literary research 4. The basics of linguistic research 5. The basics of cultural-studies research 6. Academic writing as a process, its stages 7. Treatment of sources 8. Citation styles – MLA 9. Paraphrasing and plagiarism 10. Academic vocabulary
