Cílem kurzu je podat stručný přehled anglické literatury 19. století za předpokladu aktivní účasti studentů na tomto procesu. Literatura tohoto období je představena jak skrze analýzu jednotlivých děl a popis chronologického vývoje, tak i společensko-kulturních a historických vlivů, které se na něm podílely. Témata: 1. Romantismus – filozofický, společensko-kulturní a historický kontext 2. Poezie romantického období – 1. a 2. generace romantických básníků 3. Próza v období romantismu 5. Viktoriánské období – filosofický, společensko-kulturní a historický kontext 6. Viktoriánská próza 7. Viktoriánská poezie 8. Literatura na přelomu 19. a 20. století
