The course introduces students to the development of architecture and urbanism within the context of trends in society during the process of modernization, up to present. It primarily focuses on changes in housing and urban development in dependence on the progression of life style. Course outline: Industrialization, urbanization, historizing architecture of the 19th century. Function and form, individualistic modernism, art Noveau and cubism. Traditionalism and modernism. Functionalism and new housing demands. Functionalism, social projects, modern city. The critique of functionalism, postmodernism. Residential city.
