This course is an introduction to the main tendencies of American literary creation against the backdrop of socio-historical, cultural and philosophical metamorphoses. It covers American literary production from the beginnings of colonization and contact with Native-American cultures to the rise of a multicultural American nation by the end of the 19th century.
